American doctors - procedural query
Can anyone tell me if it would be perfectly normal for an American family doctor - a general practice - to close down for the weekend, so that if a patient or a hospital needed to get in touch on Saturday afternoon, they'd basically have to wait till Monday morning?

(The question relates to an issue about medical records - not a medical emergency but a bureaucratic foul-up about who's listed as the patient's medical decision maker.)
