Hello. Archive discussion, Yuletiding
I have been writing. I just haven't been writing anything publishable here.
The thing with Yuletide. (Cast your mind back. It was last year.)
Icarus (DW link) points out that if you post your stories there, they're actually less likely to get commented on at AOOO than they are at any other fannish archive. (Somewhere downthreads someone suggests this could mean AOOO need to do some "public relations work", to which I can only say YA THINK?!?! One of the things I noticed over the Yuletide thing was that evidently no one who works for AOOO or for the One True Wank thing has any professional expertise with information work, of which PR is a subsection.)
But: the last update to the livejournal yuletide page says that the move is still "planned but delayed", so while I'm disinclined to take action to do Yuletide in 2010 (my Yuletide 2009 story, Hank's Walk escaped the 2009 archive and was posted here) I also don't have to make any decisions yet about the future... yet.
I've gathered that the most recent Yuletide plan is that if you haven't agreed to set up your own named subarchive on AOOO they'll strip your name off your stories and post them anonymously, which plan I hope they'll rethink since nothing would make me angrier than to have my stories reposted without my consent and without my name on them. My Yuletide stories are all archived here at my journal: I was thinking of putting them up on the YuletideOverdrive blog, too. The only thing I'll lose when they shut down the Yuletide site is the comments.
So much RL stuff has happened since the Yuletide storm blew up that I'm pretty much thinking: it's fannish bizniz, let it die naturally. Do nothing. Providing no one tries to anonymise and re-post my stories, that is.
At this point the main thing keeping me from archiving at Fanfiction.net is the number of 'bots which crawl it: I have a fannish identity for commenting there, but it doesn't use either this journal ID or my personal ID just because I don't want either one picked up and 'botted to fanhistory.
