An odd side-effect of SurveyFail
A while ago, Dusk Petersen noted to me that a problem with my website was that none of my stories had blurbs: I acknowledged that I write lousy blurbs and prefer "none" to "lousy".

One of the questions in SurveyFail (Q54) was "If you write m/m slash, how do you study male anatomy and physiology in order to write more convincing stories?"

and as both the question and all of the multiple-choice answers contained too many false assumptions to be answerable, in comments to a post discussing that and other poorly-worded questions, I listed the topics I researched for Sins & Virtues.

Six people in the next six days asked me for a link to the story. To give perspective, I think the total number of people who ever read Sins & Virtues prior to 1st September this year is something like 15. (I sent out a dozen hard copies: not all of those got read...)

Okay. I really do need to write blurbs. Even crappy blurbs which consist entirely of a list of research topics.

Loved it. It's stored away on my hard drive for future rereading.

the link to "Fidelity is in the Heart" is still to Greatest Journal, and blurb or no blurb, I'm curious. Any chance you have a copy to go on your website?

Oh, and I read Sins and Virtues long ago

and have the horrible feeling I never loc'd, despite loving it terribly. It completely changed my view of practically every character in it; basically you rewired the way I see the canon, and not many stories can do that.

Did you? Good grief

No, you never did. I wasn't aware you were even into M*A*S*H. As far I know - based on locs and verbal comments - there were about 15 people who read Sins and Virtues start to finish. Nobody rec'd it, aside from [info]whatho at my request on the M*A*S*Hslash community on livejournal. I'd come to think, really, that it was just as well I liked it so much, because I spent two years working on it and then it just kind of sank without a trace - not even all of the people I sent paper copies to read it.

despite loving it terribly. It completely changed my view of practically every character in it; basically you rewired the way I see the canon, and not many stories can do that.

Very cool! Oh well, it's nice to know now you liked it - plus, you know, all that rewiring work. I suspect that's probably why it sank, and so few people finished reading it and no one wanted to recommend it to anyone - it was just too long and too complicated and too out-there and too different.

Someone shrieked at me when I mentioned years ago I was getting into House that I must absolutely stay away, I'd already spoiled M*A*S*H and what would I do to House? Ironically, (a) I have never had a drier spell of writing without actually being blocked, and (b) when it comes to House as far as I can tell I am rigidly conventional ... it's the first fandom in years where I've actually been mainly a fan of the main pairing.

Thanks! For some reason, I didn't get these two comments from Sherrold in my mail. :-(

Sorry - I didn't get this via Squeaky, I don't know why.
