WOE
Laptop looking severely comatose. (Writing this on work laptop, which is not something I care to write fanfic on, really.)

I've had an endless succession of problems with the power connector on this laptop, which is only 18 months old, so the question really is: Do I rescue the data and buy a new laptop - neither from the same place or the same make - or do I take this back to the shop where I bought it and see (again) if they can fix it?

Either way. Bugger. No, I will not be updating any time soon.

Pouts, was looking forward to the next part. Know how you feel about the work laptop, I almost hate even going online at work.

Sends good thoughts towards your laptop.

Gah, sympathies. (I used to write fanfic in an email window on a terminal in the graduate student lounge -- if there was no one around who could look over my shoulder -- and email it to myself and then LOG OUT QUICK.)

Any chance the shop will just call this one a lemon and replace it, rather than trying again to fix it??

I asked about that when I first started having trouble. The power connector, they told me, while essential to the operation of the laptop, is practically impossible to claim as a manufacturer's lemon because it is so easily damaged by the user if the user habitually uses a laptop on their knees rather than on a flat surface like a table.

Wolf damaged my first external connector by chewing it: the second one really was a lemon and got replaced by the shop for free after a week's on-off-use had run my battery down to five minutes at a time: this third one is now about six months old. Even if they were to offer a straight swap, I'm already convinced I don't want another H-P.

Sympathies. I'd probably see if I could nab another repair out of the place you originally got it, but that might be a bit too hopeful ....

I've had problems posting comments to your journal (a couple of insanejournal fatal error messages, and messages disappearing off into the intrawebs never to be seen again) but am trying again.

Basically, it's just a quick note to say that I am seriouly and absolutely hooked on this series. You've got the world-building, the cultural changes, living in a dystopia and how it affects people, the plot and careful oh-so-well-thought-out reveals, the character snapshots and all the emotional hooks. So good luck with your laptop, and looking forward to whenever you've got the time/energy and tech. to update.

PS Have also emailed, don't know if the email address on your website is current.

The e-mail address on my website is current, but I get annoying amounts of spam via it, so it's just as well you warned me!

Thank you.
